Build A Bunk Bed

Building The Bunk Bed
Basically, all you are doing is elevating a twin mattress frame. The only difference is that the mattress goes inside the frame.

Pre-Made Bunk Beds vs. Self Built
The real question now is if you want to just go out and buy one or make one yourself. There are advantages and disadvantages to both.

Pre-Made in the Shade
With pre-built items you will probably spend more money. But you will definitely spend less time. When you go and buy a bunk bed that is already all put together, there is not work required. You just buy it, bring it home, and drop in the space you have designated for it. You’re done. Free space can be created in a matter of hours.

Do It Yourself
When you build your own you can save a great deal of money. You can even get some plans, for bunk beds, free online. You will just be out the cost of materials and your time. Building your own can be a great choice if you are building it for someone who has special needs. This way you can customize it to fit them perfectly. For example, if you have a really tall son, you can build an extra long bed. Now, he wont feel like his feet are hanging off or he doesn’t have room to turn. If you are creating it for some one who is in a wheel chair and needs extra help getting into bed the height of the bed and support bars could all be modified!
